Positive ID
Adam went to serve a guy, as he pulled up there were cops all over the street but his house looked clear. He went up to serve the guy and a father answered, he went to get the guy Adam asked for and said here he is when the guy came up from down stairs. The guy looked like he had just been roughed up, marks all over his face. Adam went to confirm he was who was listed and he claimed not to be and said he was the brother. Not needing personal service Adam quickly said "ok then give it to him" and left. As he left the officers on the street talked to him and confirmed that it was who we were looking for and that they had just had an altercation with him. So don't try to claim you are someone else right after you were dealt with by the cops and they are outside looking at you!! Some people will try everything to avoid consequences for their actions.
I think I'm alone now...
Garrett was out one day serving a business, it was normal business hours and the front doors were open. He went in and no one was around, lights were on but no one seemed to be in there. He politely yelled hello and no response so he walked back and continued to say hello and look around for someone to accept service. When he walked into one office there was the guy we needed to serve in front of his computer and he was extremely startled to see Garrett come around the corner. Garrett quickly identified him as who he needed dropped the papers and left as he was fumbling to do up his pants and cover up. Not sure what was on the screen but I'm willing to bet he wasn't looking for office supplies!! Lock your door man!! No one wants to be around that!!
Sunbathing..
Not a lot of thought went into these girls choice of a spot to soak up the sun. They thought up on a roof would be a great spot to catch some rays, and hey if you're going to get some sun why not do it topless? Natural right? Well that's great in a private area but... This home was located just off the main highway through a small rural town. I've got to imagine the majority of the cars on the road in the late afternoon on a weekday are going to from that town and everyone knows everyone in a small town right? Jason thought better than to document it with pictures as he didn't know how old they were and that he didn't want to go to jail for child porn... The sights we see while out on the roads in Utah!! Some people don't think things out!!
Helpfull Cops
The cops are quite willing to help us at times. Jason pulled up to serve a difficult serve one day and there were cops everywhere. They had a kid handcuffed outside the home Jason was looking to serve. When he walked up and asked what was going on the officer explained that the young man was being arrested on some pretty serious drug charges. Then he asked Jason what he was doing, he explained that he needed to serve the father but it had to go to someone inside the home and asked if anyone was home. The office quickly responded that they needed to take the druggie inside to finish a few things, they dragged him in, Jason was able to serve him, then they took the papers and left them on the kitchen table for the father when he returned and took the druggie right back out to the patrol car.
Thanks guys!! We appreciate the help!!
Is there any options?
Aaron was out serving papers one day and a lady just didn't know what to do. When he served her she had lots of questions, what she had to do, what was going to happen, and if there was any options that they could work out. As if a server can make a debt disappear for a piece of action. Arron was quick and simple with his response "One your good looking, two I'm married, and three I think that's illegal so sorry" Then he served her her papers.
It is amazing how little value people can place on their bodies and morals.
Cigarette?
So I had to go serve the soon to be ex wife of a fairly wealth man. She had been living at truck stops for the past bit and so he hadn't been able to get her served. He got word that she was staying at a motel just off the freeway in Salt Lake. So off I headed to rush over and catch her. When I got there I spoke to the mmanager and found out she was kicked out that morning. I missed her by a couple hours but the reason she was kicked out was the kicker. She tried to trade drugs for a cigarette and when that failed she offered sex for a cigarette.. Unbelievable, one cigarette for sex? And she was staying in a room with her "boyfriend" trying to get back with her ex husband and needed a cigarette so bad she was willing to have sex for one?? It's amazing what situations people can get themselves into through a string of bad decisions. The story I got she started out as a pretty respectable woman with a good life and ended up as a truck stop whore trading cigarette's for sex? It's really pretty sad.

Brilliant
This guy thought he was smart. When Aaron showed up to serve him he just claimed he was someone else. He was even gutsy enough to give his cell number and tell Aaron he can call him and meet him. Aaron called while he was there and they guy standing there who claimed not to be who we were serving, his cell rang and the voice mail was his voice. Again the guy said it wasn't him so he called again and same thing but this time he scrambled to shut it off. So needing to confirm it was him he asked a neighbor who ID him as who we were looking for. Aaron had a buddy in the local PD there so he called him. He sent a car over, they were very willing to help but when they went in to talk to the guy again he claimed not to be who we were after to the cop. So outside they decided to look at his license and see the picture, wouldn't you know it it was him. Also a second car got there and when he saw the picture he recognized him a a guy he went to school with. So he went in and said hi to him, knowing he was caught he finally admitted it. So Aaron Served him and then asked for his signature. He refused and despite the fact that we don't technically have to have it the cops advised him that he could sign or get hauled away for lying to a cop, he decided he didn't need that right now.
Come on again, just fess up and deal with your problems, don't run or hide!!
Prick..
Some people are just pricks. Take for instance they guy Aaron went to serve the other day. He knocked and asked for a lady and a young girl said she would get her but instead some prick came out yelling. Cussing him out and saying he was trespassing and to get off his property, actually he was yelling that because he rented this house Aaron had to get off. Aaron was polite and immeadiately started walking away. He got to his car on the street and for some reason this prick though that he rented the street too. He kept yelling and coming after him by now Aaron wasn't as polite and yelled back he was on a public street and didn't have to move. So this guy grabbed a hose and started spraying into Aaron's car getting him soaked and the papers, not to mention some over spray on other papers and a laptop. Then the guy let his big blat Rotweiler out, keeping Aaron in his car. The kicker is that when Aaron called the cops about being harassed they stated there is nothing they can do, they wouldn't even send anyone out. that can be a whole other issue but since he was serving papers they feel that he was trying to get thier help to do his job, never mind the prick was using force or actions to intimidate a server who is acting as an officer of the court and so is protected in doing so.
Anyhow the prick is lucky Aaron is even tempered, others (myself) may not have been. A couple nights later I went out and did get the paper served, with the prick yelling and cussing claiming that I didn't serve it and everything else he could think of, like I was trespassing by being on the sidewalk.
People please don't think that you can avoid service!! Just accept it and deal with your problems don't make more!!

Embarassing
I still feel bad for this lady, we had a wage garnishment to be served on an employer to garnish the employee's wages for a debt. When Jason served it the lady up front was who was being garnished so he had to ask for another person. She was embarrassed as you could easily tell but politely got someone else up there to accept it. When this lady got there she started right in with comments (mind you Jason knows who the garnishment is on and they are standing right in front of her desk). She starts on a rampage about how this shouldn't be her problem that people need to learn to take care of their things and how stupid people are for getting into situations like that. This poor secretary just buried her head and listen to the lady as she ripped on her. After a minute she realized who it was on, Jason couldn't get out of there quick enough, not wanting to be involved.
Lesson learned: Two sides to this coin, don't be a dead beat debtor that let's things get to that point it could be pretty humiliating or watch what company you are in before you get on your pedestal, it could strike close to home to those around you.

Unbelievable story
OK here is a story that you will not believe, I didn't. I thought stuff like this was just a rumor, not a reality but I was wrong... An investigator with our firm brought a story over from when he did work for another firm. They had a domestic surveillance case in a small rural town in Utah. This wife was worried abut her husband, that he might be cheating on her. So they set up surveillance on him and ran across a tuff situation. Do they tell her that her husband was having an affair with a cow? I mean on the positive side he wasn't cheating on her with another woman? They were able to get video of him 'cheating' with a cow, I know you're asking male or female, it was a female cow. No homosexual activity going on there, just animal sex. We were asked today what the most extreme situation we have come across was, this one hands down gets the prize. I know as a Private Investigator we will come across a few unusual situations but I hope there is never another story like this that I come across.
Lesson learned: I don't even know where to go with this, I guess we learned that we can never underestimate how low a human can sink? Or never think you're alone in a cattle field.

Skin
There are some images you just can't get out of your head... Jason was out on a serve one day in a trailer park. An eight year old boy answered the door and had him wait a minute, the boy went back and he could hear him tell the lady that someone was at the door. The boy returned and asked him to come in and wait. Shortly there after the lady came down the hall yelling to the boy, "who's at the door?". She came around the corner, very large and in all her glory (Jason seems to get the large women). She had apparently just got out of the shower and didn't bother to put on a towel. She litterally dived back down the hall as soon as she saw him. Jason quickly yelled "I'll just leave the papers here for you" and ran.
Lesson, well Jason learned to never go inside a home even if invited and no matter how cold it is. She learned how to dive. I'm still worried about that kid, I mean 8 years old, he'll remember that for life, poor kid.

Shadow
Have you ever seen an item for sale on e-bay or somewhere like that where the person listing it took a picture and their reflection was in the item? This was kinda one of those. I was out one night and went to a home to serve some papers. It had a vehicle in the driveway, lights on. The front door was one with glass in it and it wasn't smoked glass, it was clear. I could see a front room, one of those half walls and through the hall way could see a TV and couch, the family room. No one was visible but once I knocked I could see a shadow of someone move across the room in front of the TV, they walked towards the corner of the wall then I could see them get on their knees and almost lay down. I was laughing at this point as I watched a young lady in her mid 20's peeked around the corner, maybe a foot off the ground. I was looking straight at her since I was watching the shadow the whole time. Busted, she backed up quickly and stood up and a few seconds later answered the door. What can I say about that one? Sneaky sneaky... Or so she thought...
Lesson learned: When avoiding people at you home, start by covering up windows, if you fail to do that don't try to be sneaky if you're that clueless :)

Runner
OK time for another story... I had fun with this one. As you may quickly see we do a lot of process serving, a lot. I was at a home in Provo one afternoon, knocking on the door I could see a TV on but no one was coming to the door, so I kept on knocking. As a diesel truck came up the hill two kids answered, I asked for the person and could hear the truck slowing down and flipping a u-turn. Then the kids said there he is, as I turned the guy took off down the hill. A little thrown off I quickly decided that I didn't want to wait him out so I took off after him. About 1/2 a mile down the road at a 4-way stop I caught up to him. I was able to pull along side him and get him to stop. So the runner was served at the corner of Oak and Maple.
Lesson learned: Don't make an idiot out of yourself trying to avoid service, we will catch ya and a bunch of people will laugh at you on the internet.

A classic story
Well my wife has listened to and laughed at our little experiences and stories over the years dealing with people, she finally convinced me to share them so I hope they are of some entertainment value.
While being a Private Investigator isn't always as fun as it sounds there are moments, Jason had one we still laugh about almost two years ago. He was delivering some papers to a residence, it was in a little run down area of town. The home didn't exactly look inviting so he was a little on edge as he went there. A lady answered, she was extremely large (in the 400lbs range) and wearing a mumu style dress. She didn't say much and took the papers so back to the car Jason headed, as he was almost off the property he heard the lady say "Sick Him" as he turned arund he saw her stepping aside (as she filled the doorway and nothing was getting past until she stepped aside) out came a rottweiler that was almost as big as her headed after him. Now using a dog as a weapon is different than a dog just running at you so... He pulled out his gun and told the lady "Call him off or I will kill him"
Now at that point he said she "floated" down the stairs after tht dog dragging him back inside. I though he should report her for sicking a dog on him but he said the look of horror on her face and seeing her move that quick was worth it all.
So two lessons learned from this, #1 those of you with dogs, don't sick them on a man with a gun. #2 be a man with a gun ;)
Well that is one of the classics, hope to brighten your day again soon.
